Lessons I’ve Learned in 12 Years of Marriage

Marriage is a journey filled with lessons that shape the way you love, communicate, and grow together. After 12 years, here are some insights I’ve gained:

1. Laughter Is Essential

Finding humor in everyday moments and learning to laugh at ourselves keeps the relationship light and joyful.

2. Respect Outweighs Romance

Romance may ebb and flow, but mutual respect is non-negotiable. It’s the foundation of trust and partnership.

3. Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

Viewing each other as teammates instead of competitors helps you tackle challenges together instead of placing blame.

4. Apologies Matter

Learning to apologize sincerely—and accept apologies—strengthens the bond and shows emotional maturity.

5. Love Is a Choice

Every day, you have to choose to show love, even during tough times. Love isn’t just a feeling; it’s an action.

These lessons continue to guide us, reminding me that marriage isn’t about perfection but about persistence and partnership.
